In 1975, hard-hitting California State University-Fullerton free agent Johnnie Gray became a starter for the Green Bay Packers. Over nine seasons, the 5’11”, 190-pound Gray intercepted 22 passes. For three straight seasons, he made 100 or more tackles. In 1976, he set a Packers’ record with 37 punt returns for 307 yards.
Gray played free safety for six seasons and strong safety for four seasons over his 10-year career, which lasted from 1975-84.
Gray, always noted for his dedication, became an educator after his Packers career ended.
