Hard-working Dave Hanner played in league and championship seasons as a defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers between 1952 and ‘64. While he went by his middle name, Dave, teammates nicknamed the former University of Arkansas Razorback ‘Hawg.’
The 6’2”, 260-pound Hanner made 10 solo tackles and recovered a key fumble against the Baltimore Colts in 1954. In Vince Lombardi’s first game as Packers coach in 1959, Hanner scored the decisive points with a safety in the 9-7 win.
Hanner was a Packers assistant coach over 16 more seasons. Later, he became a long-time Packers scout.
