In the midst of a financial tailspin after two losing seasons in the late 1940s, and intense competition with the All American Football Conference, Green Bay Packers officials enlisted the help of Green Bay businessman Jerry Atkinson.
Atkinson chaired the ‘Save the Packers’ Thanksgiving Day intra-squad game in 1949, and a few months later, led the successful 1950 Packers stock drive. Both events raised the capital needed to keep the franchise afloat.
Atkinson was named to the Packers Board of Directors in 1950. He served as a member of the Packers Executive Committee from 1950 through ‘85.
