A tireless worker, Jack Vainisi served as the Green Bay Packers talent scout from 1950 until his untimely death in 1960 at age 33.
Vainisi drafted many NFL stars including at least 10 players in the Packers Hall of Fame. In a day when pro football organizations still drafted from college press guides and over-the-counter football magazines, Jack Vainisi set up an intricate information gathering system that is the basis for NFL draft selections today.
Vainisi scouted and drafted many Packers of the ‘50s and the young players who became the stars of the Lombardi Era. Vainisi died before he could see his hard work pay off in the championship Packer teams of the 1960s.
