For five seasons, from 1922-26, Charley Mathys wore a Green Bay Packers uniform. The 5’8”, 165-pound Green Bay West graduate later served on the first Packers Board of Directors and became a member of the Executive Committee.
Curly Lambeau and the Packers noticed the former Green Bay West and Indiana University star while he played quarterback for the Hammond (Ind.) Pros against the Packers in 1921. The next season, Mathys became the Packers starting quarterback.
After his playing career, Mathys became a successful Green Bay businessman and long-time member of the Packers Board of Directors.
