Andy Uram was drafted fourth in 1938 by the Green Bay Packers from the University of Minnesota. He was a versatile backfield star with Green Bay from 1938-43.
The 5’10”, 188-pound Uram set an NFL record on Oct. 8, 1939, against the Chicago Cardinals with a 97-yard run from scrimmage. Uram’s record was tied in 1949 by Bobby Gage of the Steelers and was broken by Tony Dorsett of the Cowboys against the Minnesota Vikings in 1984.
Uram also returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown against the Lions in 1942. In 1941, Uram returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown. He spent the 1944 and ‘45 seasons in the Navy and failed to make a comeback in 1947.
