One of two number one draft choices in 1966, Gale Gillingham was groomed as the heir to Packer guards Jerry Kramer and Fuzzy Thurston.
A star lineman at the University of Minnesota, Gillingham was a top performer for the Packers at left guard for two seasons, then moved to right guard in 1969. He was a four-time All Pro during his Packer career.
In 1972, the 6’3”, 255-pound Gillingham was moved to the defensive line, but injured his knee in the first game versus the Cleveland Browns.
He was a Packer from 1966-’74 retiring following the 1974 season. He returned to play one more season, in 1976.
