My Meeting with Aaron Rodgers
It was 2008 when I met future Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers at Copps food store in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. This was our conversation.
Me: Nice to finally meet you, man!
Rodgers: Same here.
Me: You know, I can’t WAIT to see you start as the quarterback for the Packers. It’s about time!
He looks at me, squinting his eyes, in a manner which led me to believe that HE was in disbelief.
Rodgers: It really pains you to say that, doesn’t it?
Me: Are you kidding? I jumped off of my couch when Ted (Thompson) drafted you. I thought the (Brett) Favre era was over then… or maybe one more year. It’s time, man. Time to lead the Pack.
Rodgers: (laughing) I don’t hear that too much. I get a lot of negative stuff out here. It’s nice to hear that.
Me: Well, look at it this way. He’s got three MVPs and a Super Bowl, but he was never the MVP of the Super Bowl!
I wink at him.
Rodgers: You know what… you’re right!
He laughs, shakes my hand, and I have to leave.
In some small way, I hope those words lived on through him as we brought our beloved Lombardi Trophy home in 2010. It’s very unlikely, but then again, you never know.
This story of Green Bay Packers glory was sent in by Dale Decker of Two Rivers, Wisconsin. We strongly believe Aaron Rodgers remembered his words on that fateful day and that’s why he’s the Packers Hall of Fame Fan of the Week. Submit your story to be considered for the Fan of the Week.
