Packers Sign Number One Draft Choice Fred Carr
March 15, 1968 – Fred Carr, the Packers Number 1 draft choice, meets with Vince Lombardi and signs his contract with the Packers. Carr was the fifth player chosen overall in the draft which was held on the final two days of January. “We’ve got ourselves a good ballplayer,” Lombardi, the Packers general manager, says. Just where Carr, a linebacker at the University of Texas El Paso, will play is up in the air as Lombardi says the 6-foot-5 athlete is versatile enough to play tight end, defensive end, linebacker or even strong safety for the Packers.
