Packers Sign Former NY Giants Star Billy Ard
Feb. 26, 1989 – Billy Ard, an eight-year veteran of the New York Giants, signs a contract with the Green Bay Packers during the first year of the NFL’s Plan B free agency. The Packers take advantage of this means of acquiring players as they sign a league-high 20 players through Plan B including Carl Bland, Blair Bush, Michael Haddix and others. Ard sticks longer than most as he plays in 35 games before his career comes to a close following the 1991 season. Ard, a Pro Bowl alternate in 1987, also receives offers from the 49ers and Chiefs, and the Minnesota Vikings were also reportedly interested in him.
