Feb. 24, 2004 – The Green Bay Packers designate Chad Clifton as their franchise player as the team is unable to reach a resolution in its negotiations with the offensive tackle. Clifton, a second-round draft choice in 2000, started 48 games for the Packers during his first four years with the club. The holdup in contract talks centers on the size of the signing bonus with the two parties several million dollars apart. A week later, Clifton signs a lucrative six-year extension that will keep him with the Packers through the 2008 season.
