Mike McCarthy Becomes the Packers QB Coach
Feb. 8, 1999 – Mike McCarthy becomes the quarterback coach for the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy, 35, had held the same position with the Kansas City Chiefs for the previous four years. “It’s a great opportunity, obviously, with the type of player No. 4 (Brett Favre) is,” McCarthy says of joining Ray Rhodes staff. “Expectations can’t be set any higher. I’m here to do the job.” During Mike Holmgren’s years in Green Bay (1992-98), the Packers’ quarterback coaches had been Steve Mariucci, Marty Mornhinweg and Andy Reid.
