Bart Starr Wins a Car for Being Packers MVP
Feb. 3, 1967 – Bart Starr arrives in New York to accept a sports car from Sport magazine. The automobile is given to him as he was voted the most valuable player in the first Super Bowl. Starr, who passed for 250 yards and two scores in Green Bay’s 35-10 dismantling of the Chiefs in that game, took time to talk about the matchup played nearly three weeks earlier. “Knowledgeable football people were making statements before the game – and I tend to go along with them – that over a course of the season we don’t play any weak sisters. Even the Giants (1-12-1) almost beat Cleveland and Atlanta (an expansion team) won three games.”
