Packers General Manager Ron Wolf Announces His Retirement
Feb. 1, 2001 – Packers general manager Ron Wolf announces his retirement, and Packers president Bob Harlan tabs second-year coach Mike Sherman to replace him. Wolf will remain in control of the 2001 draft and will officially step down June 1. “I don’t know what there is out there for people that only know football. I’m sure there’s nothing. There’s a side of me that’s frightened because I’m going to an area I don’t know: the area of unemployment and the unknown,” says Wolf who will remain as a consultant after he retires. Under Wolf, the Packers went from also-rans to Super Bowl champions.
