Packers Hall of Famer John Brockington is Angry at Being Replaced
Jan. 29, 1974 – The Packers select Barty Smith, a fullback out of the University of Richmond, and the choice doesn’t sit well with John Brockington, the man who has manned that position for Green Bay since being chosen in the first round three years earlier. “They (the Packers) will have to trade me because they’ve got the kid (Smith) as a fullback, too.” Brockington says. “One of us has got to play and they don’t draft a kid as their No. 1 pick and put him on the bench. That’s a waste of talent.” Neither Brockington nor Smith is traded, and both remain a Packer until Brockington is released early in the 1977 season.
