Jan. 23, 1974 – “Anything is possible,” says Packers coach Dan Devine five days in advance of the college draft. For Devine, it will be slim pickings early as Green Bay is without choices in the second, third and fourth rounds. In order, those choices were traded away for quarterback Jim Del Gaizo, safety Jim Hill and defensive back Al Randolph. “I’d trade our No. 1 pick for the right person. By the same token, I would trade for another team’s player and draft choice if it would benefit the Packers.” When asked of the talent available in the draft class, Devine says: “Overall, it’s sparse.”
