Jan. 21, 1950 – The Packers select 29 players including top picks Clayton Tonnemaker and Tobin Rote in the 15th annual college draft. Green Bay lands Tonnemaker, a center from Minnesota, with the fourth pick overall and chooses Rote, a quarterback from Rice University, with the 17th selection overall. Tonnemaker (1950, 1953-54) plays three seasons for the Packers and is chosen All Pro by United Press and the New York Daily News as a rookie. Rote never misses a game in seven seasons with the team (1950-56) and is Green Bay’s all-time leading passer at the time he is traded to the Detroit Lions in 1957.
