Football and the (Still) Single Man

Dec. 26, 1957 – Less than two weeks after completing his rookie season on the field with the Packers, Paul Hornung is back in the news for something he may have done away from the team off the field. The halfback/quarterback is rumored to have become engaged, but his “fiancée,” actress Pat Mowry, claims it was nothing more than a practical joke perpetrated by someone telephoning Los Angeles newsmen with a fake story. “Paul telephoned me this morning and I told him what had happened,” Mowry says. “I met him after the Green Bay Packers-Los Angeles Rams game here a month ago. We are very good friends but we have no plans. I have my acting career to pursue and he is going into the service soon.”
