Packers Lasso Broncos and Second Straight NFC Central Division Title
Dec. 8, 1996 – The Packers register their largest margin of victory during their Super Bowl run and capture their second consecutive NFC Central Division championship by blowing out the Denver Broncos 41-6 at Lambeau Field. Receiver Antonio Freeman catches three of Brett Favre’s four touchdown passes and Dorsey Levens rushes for 86 yards on 14 carries. Green Bay’s defense holds quarterback Bill Musgrave and the Broncos to 176 yards. “We needed this game a lot more than they did, that’s obvious, and John Elway did not play,” Packers coach Mike Holmgren says. “But all those things will not detract at all from what we accomplished today.” With 12 wins, Denver had already wrapped up home-field advantage on the AFC side of the playoffs.
