A Fair Share: Packers Divide 1939 Playoff Earnings
Dec. 6, 1939 – The playoff money the Green Bay Packers will earn against the New York Giants in the NFL Championship Game will be split among 33 players. In addition to the 30 who are eligible to play in the game, the team votes a full share to end Lee Mulleneaux, who is on the inactive list, and a full share to assistant coach Richard (Red) Smith. The 33rd share will be split between trainer Dave Woodward and property manager Bud Jorgensen. The players also vote a full share to head coach Curly Lambeau, but he declines it. On Dec. 10, Green Bay shuts out New York 27-0. Each winning share is worth $703.97.
