The Hot Seat: Max McGee is Roasted at Fundraiser

Nov. 7, 1990 – More than 600 turn out at the Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton to watch as former Packers great Max McGee is roasted by former teammates and friends. Proceeds from the event benefit the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Paul Hornung is among the many to share a story. “The Picadilly was a spot in Green Bay that was off limits to the players. It was a rock and roll place. We were in there one night and in walked a rough looking motorcycle gang. The leader of the gang looked dead straight at me and said, ‘McGee, you are a SOB.’ McGee nudged me and said, ‘Well, Max, what are you going to do about that?’ I looked at him, and we started laughing. That saved the whole thing.”
