Striking Gold, Packers Remain in Central Division Race
Nov. 5, 1972 – Green Bay rebounds from its only two-game losing streak of the season by taking out the San Francisco 49ers 34-24 in Milwaukee County Stadium. The victory keeps the Packers (5-3) tied with the Lions for the lead in the NFC Central Division. John Brockington keys the ground game with 133 yards on 24 attempts. “I like to run,” says the big fullback who also scores on a 48-yard pass from Scott Hunter to start the day’s scoring. Ken Ellis intercepts San Francisco quarterback Steve Spurrier and returns 35 yards for the final score with 23 seconds left to preserve the win. “It was no gamble,” the young cornerback insists. “I was going all the way.”
