Mike Holmgren Will Be a Free Agent
Former Green Bay Packers coach and recent Packers Hall of Fame inductee Mike Holmgren is about to be a free agent.
Holmgren has been serving as president of the Cleveland Browns, who have a new owner in Jimmy Haslem. Holmgren will reportedly be replaced by Joe Banner, although it’s unclear when.
Haslem bought the Browns, who are 1-5 this season, from Randy Lerner for $1 billion. Holmgren has been with the team since January of 2010.
He previously served as coach and general manager of the Seattle Seahawks. Prior to that Holmgren coached the Packers, leading them to two Super Bowls and one championship. He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in July.
Holmgren has always professed his love for Green Bay and the Packers organization. Although he surely would welcome a return to Green Bay, Holmgren would likely have to wait until either Mark Murphy leaves his position as president or Ted Thompson were to retire as general manager, neither of which seem imminent.
