Oct. 14, 1962 – Scoring 40 points is a rarity in the Packers-Vikings series with Green Bay having done it four times and Minnesota just once in the more than 100 games between the two since 1961. Vince Lombardi’s near-perfect squad of 1962 sets the standard with a dominating 48-21 blowout on an unseasonably warm (75 degrees) fall afternoon in Metropolitan Stadium. Jim Taylor rushes for 164 yards on 17 carries, and Bart Starr is virtually unstoppable connecting on 20 of 28 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Max McGee snags 10 for 159 yards and two scores. Still simmering after the loss, Vikings coach Norm Van Brocklin says of the 5-0 Packers: “They’ll get beat – and they’ll lose more than one. They’re not invincible. No team is invincible.”
