Rumors Have Infante Leaving Packers for Florida

Oct. 11, 1989 – Coach Lindy Infante has his Green Bay Packers winning in his second season at the helm (3-2), and just like that he’s rumored to be a candidate for the head coaching position at the University of Florida. “I’ve got too many things on my mind up here to worry about without worrying about the Gainesville situation,” Infante says. “Like I said, I’d be shocked (if his name had come up). Infante was a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection as a running back/defensive back for the Gators in the early 1960s. “I did hear that Ray Nitschke was down there speaking this week. Maybe he mentioned my name or something,” Infante adds.
