Starr Overjoyed at Packers Fast Start
Oct. 8, 1978 – Though statistics on such occurrences were never kept, the wife of Green Bay Packers coach Bart Starr says Green Bay’s 24-14 victory over the Chicago Bears brought about a first in team history. “It was the first time he (Bart) ever, in all his years of playing and coaching, ran out of the dressing room and hugged me and kissed me,” Cherry Starr says. “He always goes straight in and sees his players and gets cleaned up. But he ran out and got me in the Packers offices. I couldn’t believe it.” Starr has reason to be emotional. After three losing seasons, his team sits in first place in the NFC Central Division with a 5-1 record. “Life is a lot happier this season,” Cherry goes on to say. “I think Bart is more relaxed than he ever has been, and I think he looks better than he has for a long time.”
