Don Hutson Scored 29 in a Quarter
Oct. 7, 1945 – Don Hutson puts on a dazzling display unlike any other in NFL history. The ace receiver scores 29 points in one quarter in the Green Bay Packers’ 57-21 dismantling of the Detroit Lions at State Fair Park in Milwaukee. Hutson reaches the end zone on passes of 59, 46, 17 and 6 yards as Green Bay explodes for 41 second-quarter points. He also kicks five extra points in the period. Hutson’s six receptions for 144 yards all occur in that incredible span of 15 minutes, and all are thrown by Roy (Tex) McKay. “I never saw such an exhibition of touchdown passes in my life,” Lions coach Gus Dorais says. “That was the ball game.”
