Joel Mason Catches Only Touchdowns of Packers Career
Oct. 3, 1943 – Joel Mason sparks Green Bay’s 28-7 victory over the Chicago Cardinals with a pair of first-quarter TD receptions from Irv Comp. For Mason, who never misses a game in four seasons with the Packers (1942-45), the two scores are the only he’ll get in 41 regular-season games with the Packers. According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Mason starts the game at left end instead of Don Hutson, but Hutson makes his presence felt with three catches and four extra point kicks. “The game showed the boys have a fine spirit – the will to win,” Packers coach Curly Lambeau says on the train ride back from Chicago.
