Sept. 25, 1951 – Gene Ronzani, who orchestrated a major roster upheaval in his first year as Green Bay Packers coach, strikes again in his second season by releasing Ted Fritsch, yet another player with long ties to the organization. Fritsch’s exit comes just five days before the season opener with the Chicago Bears. Ronzani asks waivers on nine other players, but none with the name recognition of Fritsch, the second leading scorer in team history (380 points). In nine seasons with Green Bay, Fritsch accumulated 2,200 yards rushing, more than any Packer aside from Tony Canadeo and Clarke Hinkle.
