Sept. 24, 1985 – Looking for an experienced quarterback to add to the roster, Green Bay Packers coach Forrest Gregg announces the team has waived rookie QB Joe Shields in order to make room for veteran QB Jim Zorn. Mentioning that both Lynn Dickey and Randy Wright have had a history of injuries, Gregg says: “We feel very fortunate to have him (Zorn) because we feel he has a lot of ability as a football player.” Gregg uses all three quarterbacks in 1985 as Dickey (314 attempts), Zorn (123) and Wright (74) become the first Packers trio to each attempt more than 70 passes in the same season.
