Sept. 23, 1962 – Jim Taylor’s running and Green Bay’s defense add to a 17-0 blanking of the St. Louis Cardinals at County Stadium in Milwaukee. The Packers’ bruising fullback gains 122 yards on 23 carries, nearly as many yards as the entire Cardinals team (131) combined. “The whole defense played superbly, really,” Packers coach Vince Lombardi says. “That’s what you have to have – a whole team.” Hank Gremminger and Jesse Whittenton each intercept Sam Etcheverry once, and the quarterback is sacked four times. “As I said, this (Green Bay) is the best balanced team in football,” St. Louis coach Wally Lemm concedes. “Father Time is the only thing that’s going to beat the Packers.”
