Jolly’s Good Time Ends With Injury
August 10, 1981 – Mike Jolly undergoes surgery for ligament damage to his left knee, and the Green Bay Packers find themselves searching for a starting free safety. Jolly was hurt late in the fourth quarter of Green Bay’s opening preseason game, a 21-17 win over the Cowboys. Jolly played in 16 games for the Packers as a rookie in 1980, and he was the fifth back in the club’s nickel defense. Jolly became the starter at free safety after veteran Steve Luke was released.
