Packers Trade for Fuzzy Thurston
July 22, 1959 – The Green Bay Packers trade linebacker Marv Matuszak to the Baltimore Colts for Fred (Fuzzy) Thurston. A fifth-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1956, Thurston’s playing career to that point had consisted of just four regular-season contests and one NFL title game while with Baltimore in 1958. In Green Bay, the 245-pound lineman settles in at left guard, where he teams up with right guard Jerry Kramer to form perhaps the most famous tandem of pulling linemen in NFL history.
