Packers Cut Jessie Clark Loose
July 20, 1988 –Production doesn’t equate to job security for Jessie Clark, as the rights to the veteran are relinquished by the Packers. Clark, Green Bay’s second-most productive ground gainer from 1983 through 1987, is let go because first-year head coach Lindy Infante and his staff believe the fullback is not a good fit for their offensive system. “I told Jessie this morning we are not in a position right now where we can afford the luxury of having a guy who is just a fullback – unless that guy is our starter,” Infante says. Respectfully disagreeing, Clark replies: “They don’t know much about me, obviously, because they only saw what I did last year.” Clark ends his career with the Lions, Cardinals and Vikings.
