Aaron Rodgers Brings Vince Lombardi Mentality To Packers
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former coach Vince Lombardi don’t seem to have a lot in common.
Rodgers is known for being laid back and Lombardi was anything but. Lombardi was known for a running play and Rodgers is known for throwing the ball all over the place. Rodgers is California and Lombardi was New York.
They do, however, apparently have at least one thing in common. Their commitment to excellence.
In an interview with NBC Sports, receiver Greg Jennings spoke to Rodgers’ best attribute — his quest for perfection.
“I think the No. 1 thing I have to give him credit for — and I can’t give anyone else credit for, but solely himself. He strives to be perfect,” Jennings said. “We all know how probably unattainable that really is and how unrealistic that really is, but he feels like he can play to perfection. With him having that mindset and being our leader, it trickles down throughout that locker room and now everyone else is trying to play near perfection.”
Although Lombardi had many of famous quotes, he uttered one of his most poignant early in his Green Bay Packers tenure.
“Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.”
We’re not sure if Rodgers is a student of history, but he and Lombardi definitely have the same approach to football.
